There was a scene so profound it took my breath. The scene is with one of the disciples-Little James. Little James has a limp. And he approaches Jesus to ask him how he would have power to heal when Jesus had not healed him-yet. It\u2019s such a picture of why some don\u2019t get the answer they desire.<\/p>\n<p>Is it healing you didn\u2019t get? Is it a different answer to the greatest petition you made as a parent to have your child physically back and God takes him Home instead? That\u2019s what this conversation is about with Jesus and Little James. I really paid attention when the conversation was with James! I\u2019m going to share this scene. It. Is. So. Good!<\/p>\n<p>Jesus and Little James<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLittle James stumbles and pauses as he asks Jesus his most important question:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re sending us out with the ability to heal the sick and lame\u2026so you\u2019re telling me that I have the ability to heal\u2026? I just find that difficult to imagine, with my condition\u2026which you haven\u2019t healed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little James, in case the audience is not aware (and I don\u2019t blame them because I had no idea until the writers had Thomas point it out in Season 2, Episode 3), has a limp.<\/p>\n<p>(In real life, the actor who portrays Little James, Jordan Walker Ross, actually does have cerebral palsy, which the writers decided to incorporate into the script in this way, as you shall soon see\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you want to be healed?\u201d Jesus asks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cY-yes, of course, if that\u2019s possible,\u201d Little James says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019ve seen enough to know that that\u2019s possible,\u201d Jesus says.<\/p>\n<p>Little James pauses, processing this. Then: \u201cWhy haven\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I trust you,\u201d Jesus replies.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus explains: While Jesus can heal Little James, as he\u2019s healed many others, and that would be \u201ca good story to tell.\u201d But there are already many who can tell that story.<\/p>\n<p>Little James, however, will have a unique story when he learns to still praise God in spite of his disability, and focus on things that matter more than the body. To demonstrate patience in suffering on Earth because he knows that he will spend eternity with no suffering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot many can understand that,\u201d Jesus says. \u201cHow many do you think the father and I trust with this? Not many.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little James begins to cry. \u201cBut the others are so much more!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore what?\u201d Jesus asks gently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know\u2026stronger? Better than this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little James quotes the Psalmist: I know that I am \u2018fearfully and wonderfully made\u2019 he says. But that doesn\u2019t make it easier to deal with this burden. (See Psalm 139:14)<\/p>\n<p>A burden? Jesus echoes. It\u2019s easier to deal with your slow walking than Simon\u2019s temper, trust me. The Father doesn\u2019t care how he looks or how he walks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are going to do more for me than most people ever dreamed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo many people need healing in order to believe in me\u2026that doesn\u2019t apply to you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd many are healed or not healed because the Father has a plan for them which\u2026may be a mystery. We remember what Job said:<\/p>\n<p>The Lord gives and the Lord takes away\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Little James joins Jesus as the two finish the verse:<\/p>\n<p>Blessed be the name of the Lord. (See: Job 1:21)<\/p>\n<p>Jesus tells Little James:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you find true strength because of your weakness, and when you do great things in spite of this, the impact will last for generations. Do you understand?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d James says through his tears. \u201cThank you, Master.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd James, remember. You will be healed,\u201d Jesus says. \u201cIt\u2019s only a matter of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trusting God no matter what comes our way especially in the answers that are vastly different from our petition-that is when people will sit up and take notice. Can I praise God when the answer is \u2018no\u2019?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John and I were catching up on Season 3 of \u201cThe Chosen\u201d.
